CommentsData are reported as the percent of non-dormant seeds (i.e. those that germinated during the test). The pooled standard deviation for repeated checks was used as an estimate of the standard error for entries. Barley CAP lines and the checks Robust (dormant) and Stander (non-dormant) were grown in the greenhouse in spring 2009. The greenhouse was maintained at a photoperiod of 16/8 h (day/night), and day and night temperatures of 24-29 deg C and 15-18 deg C, respectively. At sowing, Osmocote Plus (Scotts; Maryville, OH) fertilizer was applied at the recommended rate to each 15.24-cm pot. At each watering, Jack's Peat-Lite (J.R. Peters, Inc.; Allentown, PA) fertilizer was applied with the water to each pot. Experimental units were single clay pots and three plants of each entry were grown in each pot. Spikes were harvested when they reached harvest maturity and were stored at -20 deg C in zip-lock like plastic bags. At the time of testing, spikes were removed from the freezer, hand-threshed, and the seeds were tested for germination percentage (GP) according to the ASBC official method, Barley-3C (1999). One hundred seeds from each genotype were spread uniformly on two filter papers in a 90-mm Petri dish saturated with 4 mL of water and incubated in darkness at 20 deg C and 98% relative humidity. The number of germinated seeds was recorded every 24 h. GP72 was determined as the total number of germinated seeds at the end of 72 h. Seeds with exposed radicals were defined as germinated. Data presented for the CAP lines is the percent of seeds that were non-dormant (i.e. seeds that germinated).

In 2009 the Toronto International Data Release Workshop agreed on a policy statement about prepublication data sharing.
